Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 255 Puts Gojo In “Racist” Spotlight

Few days back, Jujutsu Kaisen faced criticism from Japanese fans for its repetitive and uninteresting narrative. Many fans expressed concern about the ongoing story arc in the manga, and to make matters worse, the series has now come under scrutiny for Satoru Gojo’s alleged racist remarks in the latest chapter.

In recent developments in the manga, the series saw the unexpected return of Miguel who was last seen in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie. After giving almost every major character a chance against Sukuna, it seems like Gege ran out of options and decided to bring a character that fans haven’t seen for ages.

Anyway, the spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 255 finally put Miguel against the King of Curses with all the odds against him. Not many held out much hope for his square-off against Sukuna, but he ended up surprising everyone with his physical prowess and cursed technique “Hakuna Lana”.

Clearly, the comeback of Miguel and his clash with Sukuna was the major highlight of the latest chapter but what has grabbed everyone’s attention is a flashback scene where Satoru Gojo allegedly made a racist remark towards Miguel claiming that he’s “built differently” simply because he is black.

In the flashback scene, Gojo is seen in the company of Yuta and Miguel in the latter’s hometown of Kenya. There, Gojo gave a brief about Miguel’s cursed technique “Hakuna Lana” to Yuta, as he described it as an ability that could buff Miguel’s strength while simultaneously debuffing his opponent.

While praising Miguel’s strength and toughness, Gojo made a remark claiming that most Jujutsu sorcerers are Japanese and they use Cursed Energy to strengthen their bodies, but this doesn’t apply to Miguel. According to Gojo, Miguel’s rare skeletal structure and muscular physique automatically make him a force to be reckoned with compared to a Japanese sorcerer.

However, Miguel didn’t take kindly to this statement and refuted Gojo’s claim, saying Gojo was labeling him as that because he’s black. He further added that there are black people who are non-athletic and he’s special simply because of his own capabilities. Although Gojo later apologized for his statement, the fandom erupted over his discriminatory remarks, declaring Gojo a blatant “racist”.

Some found it hilarious and others came in Gojo’s defense suggesting that he didn’t mean to throw racist remarks on Miguel and it’s a part of his goofy nature. Everyone has a different reaction to it, but one thing is certain that future chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen are going to be epic as  “Team Avengers” has assembled to end Sukuna’s rampage once and for all.
