There often comes a point in anime where exploring an ability or power becomes more about keeping it hidden than unleashing it to its full potential. As these forbidden anime powers generally come at a steep price, they work as a staple force for certain characters in their journey of seeking ultimate power.
These powers often test the limits of characters and challenge their moral compasses, while witnessing the price characters pay for wielding them. In this article, we’ll explore some of the forbidden anime powers that are too dangerous to be left free. So, without further ado, let’s get started.
10. Mangekyo Sharingan – Naruto
The Uchiha clans’s characteristic Sharingan eyes have their reputation in the Naruto verse and they’re feared for their powers as well. What’s worse? Its advanced form called “Mangekyo Sharingan” once activated grants the user access to devastating and often forbidden techniques.
Two of the most dangerous ocular jutsu of these eyes are Izanagi and Izanami which are used for controlling reality and disrupting the flow. As its activation requires the user to witness a traumatic experience, only a handful of Uchiha has been able to unleash its full potential.
9. Geass – Code Geass
The powers of Geass go beyond that of human imagination as after acquiring this supernatural ability, a person’s fairly quiet life gets altered seriously. However, the powers of Geass vary between users as in Lelouch’s case it allowed him to control people’s minds and them do things as he commands.
While the use of Geass has its own benefits, it also carries heavy restrictions or limitations that can lead to a user being consumed by it. Once the user hits the “runaway Geass” stage due to overuse, the Geass becomes uncontrollable making it one of the highly forbidden anime powers.
8. God Hand – Berserk
Berserk arguably fosters one of the most evil groups of demon lords in anime that are pure evil. The God Hand is a band of five extraordinarily powerful demonic entities that significantly plague the course of humanity and the state of the universe.
Representing the pinnacle of malevolence, the God Hand acts as executor of the Idea of Evil’s will and lurks anywhere large concentrations of negative human thoughts swirl. Their existence in the realm is a testament to the price and repercussions of forbidden power.
7. Level Zero – Hellsing
Alucard who’s hailed to be the strongest vampire and is amongst the best seinen protagonists in anime has access to a very lethal ability that can trouble anyone. Out of the seven forms Alucard has, Level 0 is the most menacing one as it allows him full access to devastating powers.
Upon releasing his final state, Alucard reverts to his original form Vlad, and commands an army of the physical manifestations of every soul he’s ever devoured. He gets free from all his restrictions with all his abilities at his fingertips, but he is unable to access Level 0 without permission from Integra.
6. Egyptian God Cards – Yu-Gi-Oh!
The Egyptian God Cards are one-of-a-kind created by Maximillion Pegasus, who modeled them after three Ancient Egyptian divine beasts. However, after realizing that these cards were too powerful to be mass-produced, Pegasus ordered them to be buried in the Pharaoh’s tomb.
As stated, these cards have a reputation for causing legitimate injury or even death to their wielder. For a similar reason the Egyptian God Cards are also banned in the real world and one cannot use these cards in official tournaments due to their limitation text stating as such.
5. Ankhseram Black Magic – Fairy Tail
Ankhseram Black Magic is slightly different from the rest of the forbidden anime powers due to the fact that it’s sort of a curse and is inflicted upon someone by God Ankhseram instead of a person’s own will. Zeref Dragneel, one of the best magic users in anime, has been bestowed with this ability.
While it grants its users near-absolute immortality, it also lets them produce a black miasma that can kill anything it touches. The side effect of Ankhseram Black Magic is that it’s uncontrollable at times and can distort the user’s mental state to a severe point.
4. Ryuujin Jakka – Bleach
Ryuujin Jakka is the manifested spirit of Captain Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto’s Zanpakuto that takes the form of an enormous and blazing inferno once activated. As the oldest and most powerful fire-type Zanpakuto, Ryuujin Jakka has an immeasurable amount of offensive and spiritual power.
When released with full potential, the blade of Ryuujin Jakka can incinerate anything in its path, and the heat from its flames is said to scorch the sky and consume the clouds. Due to its overwhelming power and destructive nature, Yamamoto uses Ryuujin Jakka sparingly, making it one of the most forbidden anime powers.
3. Human Transmutation – Fullmetal Alchemist
Human Transmutation is a form of alchemy that supposedly brings people back to life – sounds ridiculous which is why it’s seen as a taboo in the “Fullmetal Alchemist” world. When Elric brothers tried to revive their mother, they not only failed to bring her back, Ed lost an arm and a leg and Al lost his entire body.
Even one of the greatest anime mentors Izumi Curtis lost some of her vital organs while trying to revive her stillborn child. These failed attempts indicate that not only it is virtually impossible to bring back dead to life, but the cost of trying Human Transmutation is also high.
2. Eight Inner Gates – Naruto
Naruto is blessed with so many great anime villains and heroes that it has become the central shaft of numerous dangerous anime powers that could harm its users as well. The Eight Inner Gates, often used by the teacher-student duo of Might Guy and Rock Lee, is one such ability.
Using the Eight Gates is described as a double-edged sword as opening chakra pathways dramatically alters the internal strength and pressure, thus turning fatal for the user. Such risks have caused the technique to be categorized into forbidden anime powers.
1. Wish Granting – Hunter × Hunter
Alluka Zoldyck wouldn’t be deemed one of the strongest kids in anime if not for her “Wish Granting” ability. In her altered personality, which is termed Nanika, Alluka can grant a wish to anyone who fulfills three of her requests – the bigger the wish, the more difficult the next set of requests will be.
However, if a person is unable to fulfill Nanika’s requests four times in a row, they and their loved ones are instantly wiped out. As Alluka has no control over her powers, the Zoldyck family keeps her locked in an isolated room and rarely allows the wish-granting powers to be used.
