One Piece has proven to be a life-changing series for many around the world. Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece has sparked passion in countless fans, inspiring some to turn their lives around while others exploit its legacy and popularity to deceive unsuspecting people.
In a recent incident in Japan, a man was arrested for selling counterfeit One Piece Card Game cards on the second-hand market. During the investigation, the police officials seized approximately 1,500 fake cards at the scene.
The suspect, Matsuyama, admitted to the accusations, stating, “Because I can make money easily, I sold them even though I knew they were fake.” Authorities estimate that the offender sold over 8.68 million yen (approx. $55,000 USD) worth of fake One Piece cards to buyers.
The investigation began in June 2024, when police discovered a batch of cards with descriptions such as “cannot be sold in regular stores” being sold on a second-hand market website at prices lower than the general market rate.
In response, authorities launched a thorough investigation, and after months of searching, they finally made a breakthrough. The police are now working to trace the source of these counterfeit One Piece cards.
