Hitoshi Iwaaki’s original body horror manga, “Parasyte” is set to make a return this summer with its brand new live-action series on Netflix. The streaming giant on Thursday released the first trailer and a new poster for the upcoming series, giving a sneak peek into the gripping tale of humans and parasites.
Helmed by the director of “Train to Busan” and “Hellbound”, Netflix’s new live-action series titled “Parasyte: The Grey” is a fresh take on the original manga that will be set in Korea. The series follows Jeong Su-in, who forms a symbiotic relationship with a parasite after it fails to take over her brain.

Starring Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Lee Jung-hyun in the main lead, “Parasyte: The Grey” is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Netflix on April 5 worldwide. However, it’s still unclear how many episodes the live-action series will have on the streaming platform.
Rather than attempting to recreate the source material exactly as it appears in the manga or anime adaptation, the live-action series will tell its own new story. Netflix describes the series as, “When unidentified parasites violently take over human hosts and gain power, humanity must rise to combat the growing threat”.
Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga has previously inspired an anime TV series titled “Parasyte: The Maxim” and two live-action films. The author shared his thoughts on Netflix’s adaptation, saying, “Above all, I was thrilled by the fact that the series covers a new story. As the original creator, I am also one of the audience who cherish the series with surprise and anticipation”.
