Yoshihiro Togashi’s masterpiece “Hunter × Hunter” is close to the hearts of many fans out there and it is no surprise that the series is still admired by many critics and enthusiasts alike. Started back in the late 90s, this legendary manga continues serialization even today. But recently the author decided to shock everyone by revealing the Hunter x Hunter ending in a heart-wrenching message.
In a live interview in Japan, Togashi mentioned his prolonged health-related issues which are causing problems in his schedule and preventing him from publishing normally. Hence, considering his current situation, the mangaka put forward a provisional ending for the series just in case he isn’t able to finish it by himself.
Togashi’s Message About Hunter x Hunter Ending
As stated by Togashi, he’s suffering from tremendous health and back pain problems as of late. Being hardly able to resume his work at the end of 2022 after more than four years of hiatus, the author is again finding it difficult to continue illustrating his manga due to the immense pain that he has to go through.
At the same time, he does have a dream of giving a solid Hunter x Hunter ending to his fans as he does not want to leave them stranded. Hence, he thought of dropping an ending for the series which, according to him, will serve as the main ending of the series in case something happens to him before finishing the manga.
Hunter x Hunter Ending Layout
Before sharing the multiple ending scenarios of Hunter x Hunter, the mangaka asked for forgiveness from his fans in case they didn’t like the ending. The author has also mentioned that it is a tentative ending, and it’ll probably be changed if he gets the time to do so. However, he makes it clear that fans can consider it valid if the worst-case scenario occurs.
In his interview, Togashi claimed that for the ending he had prepared three scenarios. According to him, Ending A will have about an 80% satisfaction rate among the audience while Ending C will have only a 10% satisfaction rate but he intends to keep it because of his personal preference.
“For the ending, I have prepared three scenarios A, B, and C. When considering the proportional reaction from readers, the ending A is deemed satisfactory by 80%, and unsatisfactory by 20%. This does not necessarily imply a high rating, but for me, reaching it will be secure in a way that doesn’t complicate matters with excessive criticism, in my belief.
As for ending B, opinions will be divided similarly between satisfaction and dissatisfaction. For ending C, I anticipate a satisfaction rate of 10% and a dissatisfaction rate of 90%. Why do I keep it present, even with a high rate of dissatisfaction? That’s because it is my personal preference, but fundamentally, I want to think to the utmost extent about an ending to the point where I might not choose any of these three and create what I find most enjoyable”.
Concluding his message, the author also shared an alternate Ending D which didn’t make it to the candidate scenarios but was once considered to be among the main Hunter x Hunter endings. He states that it’s still to be considered as the official ending if he, for some reason, cannot finish his story.
What Will Be The Hunter x Hunter Ending Scene?
The pre-planned ending scene of the series supposedly takes place near a lake, focusing on a girl named Jin who ends up catching the Lake Lord while fishing. She brings it to her mother and declares her disinterest in becoming a hunter, which is what seems to be her mother’s wish to take on this role.
Right after, the scene introduces Jin’s father who seems to doesn’t mind his daughter’s will to stay on the island forever and inherit their place. This comes as a dismay to the mother who blames Grandma Noko and Grandma Mito (unknown characters) for this act of Jin and her husband.
In the next paragraph, it appears to be that the mother is unaware of the fact that Grandma Noko and Grandma Mito are unrelated by blood however, the father seems to be aware of it. Being frustrated by it, the mother goes on to lecture about Grandpa Gon who was a great hunter and one day his granddaughter will also do so.

Jin moves on to Mito’s shop where she butchers the Lake Lord while thinking about her mother’s continuous ranting. She doesn’t seem to be all that keen on abandoning her loved ones for the sake of being the greatest Hunter which is why she doesn’t want to become like her Grandpa Gon and just wishes to lead her life differently.
In the next scene, a chubby child walks in who seems to know Jin very well. As a bird flies over their heads, it’s ambiguously revealed that the main characters in this ending are the son of a particular individual, the daughter of another, and someone’s grandchild and that they all live in different places.
In the final sequence of the Hunter x Hunter ending, a mysterious character appears to be observing this scene unfolding. Togashi didn’t say much about this character, leaving it to the fans to guess who it could be. That finally sums up the provisional ending of Hunter x Hunter in case the author doesn’t get to finish his story.
