How long can you wait for your favorite feature film? One, two or maybe ten years at most! But, the fans of Avatar waited for a long 13 years to finally get a sequel to their beloved film titled “Avatar: The Way Of Water”. Yes, you heard it right, Avatar 2 is all set to release this year and a trailer has been debuted for the James Cameron film.
After thirteen long years and a bunch of production delays, this evening 20th Century Studios finally released a glimpse into James Cameron’s “Avatar 2”. The sequel’s official title is “Avatar: The Way Of Water” and this marks end of the long-awaited sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time. Check out the trailer of Avatar 2 below:
Avatar: The Way Of Water is set to star many of the original film’s cast members which include Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Sigourney Weaver in a new role. Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh and Oona Chaplin will also be part of the upcoming Avatar 2.
The new film picks up from where the 2009 Avatar left off, with Sully and Neytiri building their family on the planet of Pandora and fighting new threats to its burgeoning civilization. Avatar 2 is scheduled to release in the theatres on December 16, 2022. And, fans expect it will surpass the box-office collection of the first one (US $2.8 billion) as soon as it will premiere.
Avatar 2 is produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, with executive producers Peter M. Tobyansen and David Valdes. According to Cameron, the film was initially scheduled for a 2014 release but was pushed back seven times until its current date later this year. Shooting for the film wrapped back in 2020 and surprisingly, the production of Avatar 3 is also done with a confirmed release in 2024.
