How many times have you seen an anime lover doing something remarkable like breaking a national level record in athletics after getting inspired by his favorite character? Not many, however, the 23-year-old boy from India has proved it true by achieving an extraordinary feat and the reason behind his success was Dragon Ball protagonist, Goku.
On Wednesday, Indian sprinter Amlan Borgohain won a Gold medal in the 200-metre finals at the Federation Cup in Calicut University. He reached the finish line in 20.52 seconds meanwhile, breaking Rio Olympian Mohammed Ansas’ previous national record of 20.63 seconds.
In the interview, Amlan revealed that he got inspired to break the national record of 200m finals after channeling Goku, the lead protagonist of the classic shōnen series, Dragon Ball. He added that the only thing that motivated him was a long chat with his coach and binge-watching Dragon Ball Z.
“I am a huge fan of anime and I watch a lot of Dragon Ball Z and get inspired by Goku. So after talking to my coach and psychologist I watched a lot of episodes on the internet and it boosted me. One thing anime has taught me is that there is no limit. That is why I push myself each day.”
The athlete further revealed that his drive for being a better version of himself was triggered by Goku’s achievement of Ultra Instinct. “In Dragon Ball Z, Goku always keeps improving himself when he fights until he finally achieves ultra instinct. I feel like I have to be like Goku and be plus one in the next event. I never give up”, he told reporters.
Amlan Borgohain hails from a small town of Assam, India and won his gold medal in the men’s 200m race at the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics 2022 in Kozhikode. His next target is to break his own record of 20.52 seconds and keep following the path of Goku to never give up.
