Demon Slayer Leading Anime Ranking Charts For Record 5 Months In Japan

Even after the end of the second edition of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the series is outshining on all the media streaming platforms across Japan. In a recent ranking list released by GEM Partners, Demon Slayer is leading the Weekly Viewers Rankings chart for a record 5 months since October! Besides, it was also the most-watched anime of 2021 in Japan.

GEM Partners is a Japanese agency that conducts surveys to release a ranking list based on entertainment content consumed by the user during the week. This survey collects data from 19 different platforms & takes nearly 7000 respondents into consideration each week, targetting men and women aged 15 to 69 years living in Japan.

According to the report published by GEM Partners, Demon Slayer is the leading anime franchise in Japan as of now. The show has been on the top of the list across all SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) distribution platforms in Japan for a consecutive 5 months including the month of February.

Not a single anime or television show has been able to dethrone it from its top spot since October. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train TV version started broadcasting in October and after that, Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc began airing. The show ended on Feb 14th, 2022 with a banging finale episode, however, maintaining the first rank for February month as well.

The second most-watched show in February was Attack On Titan because of the ongoing final season of the series which is only a couple of weeks away from its end. Ousama Ranking grabbed the 3rd spot while Jujutsu Kaisen ranked 4th on the list even though its anime television series ended a while ago.

Eiichiro Oda’s popular creation “One Piece” was also not behind the rankings and it successfully breached into the list with a stronghold at 5th position. Other anime works that entered in Top 20 most-watched of February includes My Dress-Up Darling (10th) & Haikyuu (17th). The rest of the list was dominated by international releases which included Netflix’s K-drama “All Of Us Are Dead” and “Squid Game”.

This ranking is based on 19 flat-rate video distribution services which include ABEMA Premium, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, dTV, d Anime Store, FOD, Hulu, J: COM On Demand, Netflix, Paravi, Rakuten TV, SPOOX, TELASA, TSUTAYA. TV, U-NEXT, Animehodai, Disney Plus, Bandai Channel and Hikari TV Video Service.
